The NSW Government will today officially announce two tiers of grants for Northern Beaches businesses impacted by the COVID-19 lockdown over the Christmas period.

First tier grants of $3,000 will be for small businesses that have suffered at least a 30 per cent decline in turnover, while second tier grants of $5,000 will be for small businesses that have suffered at least a 50 per cent decline in turnover.

This is a welcome development. The Northern Beaches lockdown was especially difficult as it spread across the Christmas period, traditionally the busiest time for trade in that area. Business NSW advocated for this targeted support from government after speaking with our members throughout the lockdown.n the Northern Beaches, it is also pleasing to see a suite of other measures will be introduced state-wide, including greater clarity when future Public Health Orders are made. This will give business owners more certainty about what they can and can’t do.

We all appreciate that the past year has created severe stress for many business owners, so making mental health advice more accessible through existing Government channels is another positive step.

I am pleased that the Government has pledged to specifically promote local attractions on the Northern Beaches, as well as pilot its Dine and Discover program in the area which will hopefully bring some revitalisation to hospitality businesses and support the community.
